Ike Makes 1000!
Ike makes his 1000th skydive!  Ike writes...
As I mentioned before, number 1000 was a 6-way sit-fly campfire at sunset. It was a good jump; low pressure since we had a few different skill levels on the dive.  I was vigorously pied later that night. The folks down here don't mess around with water for 100 and 500 jumps, they just start right out with pies, so they've gotten really good at it. Whipped cream found it's way into every hole in my head. The real trick is to hit the person in the face, then smear UPWARD so the cream finds it's way up into the sinuses. For the rest of the night EVERYTHING smelled like whipped cream.  The attached is the evidence I'm sure you'll all be pleased to see.
I'm moving to Virginia next week. It's a bit closer to Kentucky, so I'm sure to be finding my way there more often. Look for me at Hog Roast this year!
Later;
Ike
Hey Ike!  We were at the DZ discussing your achievement.  Since you 'wisely' made you 1K jump somewhere else we're holding for you buddy!  So I guess, "WE CAN'T WAIT" to see you at Hog Roast...

Tracey Kaiser!

Colorado tends to bring on new hobbies other than skydiving....
Ice climbing- Ouray, CO - Feb. 04
Blue Skies!

Tracey can be reach here via email.
Tracey will be living in Colorado for the next three or four years.
She has passed her qualifying exam for her PhD so she can go on to pursue it.  Besides now that she has taken up mountaineering she rock and ice climb a lot these days.
YOU GO GIRL!  We think of you often and look forward to when next we meet.  From all of us at Bardstown DZ, "Blue Skies!"  Or, maybe, "Blue Ice?"

Safety Day

Safety was held at the DZ on Saturday night March 13th. There were over 40 participants this year.  The participants migrated among four stations representing general topics including;  Aircraft procedures, Gear, Canopy Flight, and Emergency Procedures.  Those leading the stations were: Gerry Whitson, Bob Boswell, Dan Aukstikalnis, Larry Compton, Chris Snellen and Kenn Heismann.
Many participants posed questions which questions which resulted engaging discussions, which proved to be very informative.  Especially for those newer to our sport.
Kenn passed out t-shirts to the participants to thank them for their participation in safety day which reflects out DZs ongoing  commitment to safety.
After everyone had visited each station most everyone stayed around to mingle, enjoy grain based beverages and tell their version of their favorite war stories about skydiving.
We have a safe DZ that has a continuing commitment to safety in our sport.  We are lucky to have a DZ which is home for own little community of friends which couldn't happen with the influence and tutelage and patience our DZO.  So, I ask everyone to join me in saying "YA to you Kenn Heismann and all those who make our DZ the coolest place to skydive!...."

Danny Baseheart
Danny has been hanging around in Florida this winter packing parachutes, flying video and the like.  Danny has recently sent two emails addressed to everyone expressing "hello" and anxious to get back home to Kentucky.
Danny mailed a photo of a 15-way he was in and wanted to share the photo with us which you see here (click on photo for larger view).  Danny is wearing the red helmet in the upper right corner.
Danny plans to leave Florida for Kentucky on April 20th.

Hog Roast
Hog Roast has been scheduled for July 16-18.  Again Kenn has scheduled Paul Fayard for that same hot Twin-Otter as last year.
So, spread the word!  Bring your tent!  Come to Bardstown and Jump, Jump, Jump!

Author O'Neal Jr.
     August 12, 1946 - January 27, 2004
Author started skydiving in August 1968 with his sister Renee.  Author had over three hundred jumps to his credit.  Most of his jumps were logged in Madison and Mooresville IN, Paducah, Cynthiana and Bardstown KY, as well as Zenia OH.
Author jumped into the Kentucky Derby in 1970.  Author was also an accomplished watercolor artist and guitar player.
Author will be missed by those of us who had the pleasure and opportunity to share our sport with us.

$$$ Fuel Costs take their Toll...
On Friday night at the USPA Instructor Seminar held at the Hampton Inn in Bardstown Kenn announced that jump prices were going to be increased to $5.00 a jump (from $4.00) plus $1.00 for every thousand feet up to 9,500 feet and $2.00 for every thousand feet above 9,500.
Prices for Staticline, tandem and AFF haven't changed.
So if you can't keep track on your fingers and toes, here are the prices at varying altitudes.

Altitude Price
  2,000   $7.00
  5,000 $10.00
  9,000 $14.00
10,000 $16.00
11,000 $18.00
12,000 $20.00 "Hopeful"
13,000 "I can wish, can't I!"

Coach Jump Fee $25
Kenn opened the floor to attends at the USPS instructor seminar to an open conversation about what students should be charged for a coach jump.  Suggestions ranged from nothing to $25 plus the jump ticket.
The price for a coach jump was set at $25.00.  So if you make a coach jump with a student in accordance with the ISP the student will be charged $25.00 for the service.  The coach or instructor will retain what remains after the cost of their jump is deducted.
Example for a coach jump from 9,500.  Student pays $45.00 for his jump and $25.00 for the coach.  The coach will have the jump paid ($14.50) out of the $25 fee and receive a credit of $10.50.  On average a couch jump takes about an hour and a half not including the ride to altitude.

Mark Baur
Mark came down to assist in the Staticline instructor certification course held on April 2, 3 & 4.  Mark and Kenn in photo right.
The course gave Mark the excuse he's been looking for go get back to Bardstown and renew friendships at our DZ.  Mark was one of our regulars who moved away yet has always considered our little drop zone in Bardstown, KY his home DZ.
Mark will be the course director for your upcoming Accelerated Freefall Certification course coming up June 5 - 13.  Several of the potential candidates got the opportunity to pick Mark's brain about what to expect and how to prepare for the upcoming course.
     Mark can be reached at:

USPA Instructor Seminar
This year the USPA Instructor Seminar was held at the beginning of the Staticline Instructor Certification Course on Friday night April 2nd at the Hampton Inn in Bardstown.
We had a good turn out.  More than 25 rating holders attended.
The seminar is a yearly prerequisite to renewing and maintaining a USPA instructional rating.
Topics; Liability, waivers, fuel costs, coach jump fees, student log books, skydiver currency, exit sequence, FARs, BSRs, the ISP, AFF & Staticline ICC, etc...
After the meeting several folks meandered over to the local Mexican restaurant for a little food, a few beverages and good company.

Mark Weaver
First - Mark Weaver and Samantha Shows announced their marriage which took place on  February 22nd after what Mark describes as, "an "interesting" relationship over the years for those of you that know us, but we finally settled down and we have never been happier."
Second - Mark deployed for Iraq around the beginning of March.   He continues to be the BDE Logistics Planner / Movement Officer for the deployment though Kuwait and up to Baghdad, and at that point he will become the Assist S4 and work with the money for contracting and other expendable stuff.
You can check up with him periodically by checking out his website at TXSkydiver. Where you can also see some of the picks from the wedding.
When he returns from Iraq in 12-15 months, Sam and he plan a more formal wedding and then settle down into our new life with the boys.
Take care, and if this message reaches you deployed already, Good Speed as you come home.
